Erasmus+ students who arrived at Opole University of Technology for the winter semester have completed their first eventful month filled with activities and integration events. Their stay kicked off with “Welcome Week” – an introductory week designed not only to make them feel at home but also to help them gain a deeper understanding of Polish culture and the university where they will be studying.
The Erasmus+ students were warmly welcomed with an introductory meeting with representatives from the International Relations Office at Opole University of Technology. The office staff presented the fundamental rules and guidelines for navigating university life, along with an overview of organizational matters related to housing and studying in Poland. This meeting provided valuable insights that helped the students find their way in this new environment and feel more settled in their surroundings.
Next, the students had a chance to meet their Erasmus peers and discover the charm of Opole. They participated in a bingo game, a friendly icebreaker activity that encouraged them to get acquainted in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Together with their Mentors, who support them throughout their stay, Erasmus+ participants went on a city tour of Opole. The walk allowed them to explore the city’s main attractions and experience the unique vibe of Opole.
The organizers also arranged sports activities that energized the participants and helped them bond. The students headed to an ice rink where they had fun trying their skills on skates alongside their new friends. For many, it was their first time ice skating, especially those from warmer climates. Besides skating, the group also went bowling, which offered a chance for friendly competition and a lot of laughs.
During the first week, students also had the opportunity to meet their Erasmus+ Faculty Coordinators, who will support them throughout the semester. They also met the teachers who will be leading their courses, which helped them make their first academic connections and prepare for classes. This introduction allowed the students to feel more confident and better informed about their study programs.
One of the most exciting highlights was the Bubble Football match, which brought tons of laughter and excitement. Clad in large inflatable bubbles, the students could safely compete on the field, fostering a sense of community and strengthening bonds. Additionally, the Erasmus+ students teamed up with their Mentors for a friendly soccer match. It was a great opportunity for the students to test their sports skills and enjoy healthy competition in a friendly atmosphere.
At the end of the month, the students went on a Halloween-themed trip to the Dinosaur Park in Krasiejów. This visit was not only a chance to have fun but also an opportunity to learn about the region's prehistoric history. Strolling among giant dinosaur models, students discovered interesting facts about prehistoric times and learned about the species that once roamed the area of modern Poland. Halloween-themed attractions added a special, mysterious atmosphere to the event.
The start of their time at Opole University of Technology has been exceptionally engaging for Erasmus+ students. With the comprehensive Welcome Week program and diverse integration activities, they have had the chance to make new friends, explore Opole, and familiarize themselves with the university. Ahead lie more months of learning, challenges, and unforgettable experiences.
